Arjun

Terminalia arjuna

From at approximately 3,000 years ago, Indian Ayurvedic medicine has prized the bark of the Arjun tree as a treatment for the heart. Vagbhata, an Indian physician from the seventh century CE, is claimed with being the first to prescribe Arjun for cardiac problems. One plant whose traditional usage has been supported by the contemporary pharmacological study is Arjun. In India, study into Arjun has been ongoing since the 1930s. Studies' conclusions have been wildly divergent; some claim it raises heart rate and blood pressure, while others argue the opposite. It appears that the herb is most effective in treating diseases like ischemic heart disease and angina, which have insufficient blood flow to the heart. 58 anginatic males received arjun in an Indian clinical study conducted in 2002. Results were highly encouraging, with those taking Arjun reporting much less angina symptoms and better exercise tolerance.

The majority of the Indian subcontinent, from Sri Lanka to the Himalayan mountains, is home to Arjun. It grows well along riverbanks and in moist, marshy regions. The tree is produced from seed, and in the winter season, the bark is removed.

Uses

Traditional Heart Remedy Arjun has historically been used as a heart tonic in traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine. It has a long tradition of controlling heart failure and edema (a disease where fluid builds up in the legs and ankles as a result of inadequate heart pumping).

Ayurvedic Medicine When one of the three humours—kapha, pitta, or vata—is present in high concentrations, ayurvedic doctors utilise Arjun to restore equilibrium. The bark is used as a drink to manage diarrhea and dysentery. Conventional Ayurvedic asthma therapy includes powdered bark. In Ayurveda, Arjun is also used for bile duct issues, intoxication, and scorpion stings.

Modern Heart Remedy Arjun helps with angina and weak coronary blood flow. It is also advantageous if the heart's pace and beat are off. Arjun enhances circulatory health and lowers the chance of developing a major cardiac condition by decreasing blood cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and maintaining normal cardiac function.
