The Divine Husbandman's Classic by Shen'nang Bencaojing, a herbal from the first century CE, is the first source to reference Zhi Mu.
Zhi Mu is a wild plant that grows naturally on exposed hills and slopes in northern China. The north and northeastern provinces are where it is grown.
