Ylang-Ylang

Ylang-Ylang is a tropical plant utilized for its flowers and potent essential oil. Fruity, flowery, and rich to smell, ylang-ylang has been used as a top note in Chanel No. 5, and is commonly used in aromatherapy. The benefits of ylang-ylang are vast and include: promote healthy sleep, ease stress and anxiety, reduce depression and build a positive mindset, and lower blood pressure. But, it's ylang-ylang's ability to act as a natural aphrodisiac for which it is best known.

The flowers of yang-ylang have fulfilled different purposes throughout history. In Indonesia, the petals of yang-ylang would be sprinkled across beds of newlyweds on their wedding night. It was believed to be a token of love and affection while acting as a natural aphrodisiac, too! In the Far East, ylang-ylang is a traditional adornment.

Ylang-ylang is a tropical plant; a true lover super-humid, sun-soaked environments. And, when given the perfect environment, like in its native Indonesia or Philippines, ylang-ylang will thrive and grow to be 80 feet tall. As an evergreen tree, ylang-ylang has lance-shaped leaves, and herbaceous star-shaped flowers. Today, ylang-ylang is cultivated in tropical Asia and Africa, as well as its indigenous state.
