The earliest account of the watermelon being used is from the Old Kingdom of Egypt, which lasted from 2686 to 2181 BCE. According to Egyptian myth, the watermelon seed is from the semen of Seth, the god of warfare and storms. Watermelon was used in Egypt to treat diseases that were caused by demons, essentially expelling them away. Other uses of watermelon were common as well such as helping with trembling fingers and constipation. In Chinese medicine, watermelon was traditionally used to help relieve symptoms caused by heat such as sweating and thirst.
