The pumpkin is classified as an annual plant. It is easily recognized because of its big size and bright orange color. The stems often curl around the fruit and intertwine with the yellow flowers.
Pumpkin seeds and sap have been used across several different cultures. The sap was used by the Mayans to treat burns and the seeds were used by the Menominee as a diuretic. Worms has been treated with a paste made out of ground up pumpkin seeds mixed with honey, water, or milk for over a century. The effectiveness of the paste cemented it as a standard practice in the medical community.
A common plant worldwide, though native to North America. It is harvested in the Fall and often used as a seasonal decoration for Halloween.
