Lesser Celandine

Ranunculus ficaria

Mat-forming perennial reaching 15 cm in height (6 in). Possesses tiny tubers, thick heart-shaped leaves, and bright yellow blooms with glossy petals. Although all Ranunculus species are corrosive and irritating to varying degrees, several others have been employed in herbal therapy. The yellow water crowfoot (R. Delphinifolius), which has blossoms and stigma, was used as a snuff by the Meskawi people of North America to induce sneezing. It was also combined with other herbal plants to cure respiratory issues like catarrh and nasal congestion.

Lesser celandine has widely used as a remedy for ulcers and haemorrhoids since ancient times. In the Middle Ages, it was thought that treating haemorrhoids by just having lesser celandine was enough.

Western Asia, North Africa, and Europe are the native habitats of lesser celandine. It is harvested in the spring when it is in bloom and is frequently found in woodlands, hedgerows, and barren open areas
