Irish Moss is reddish-brown and can reach a height of 25 cm (10 in). The plant's body is flat-forked and has an outline that resembles a fan.
As an emulsifying and binding agent, Irish moss is widely used in the food and pharmaceutical businesses, for instance, in toothpaste.
You can find Irish moss on the Atlantic shores of Europe and North America. It develops by adhering to rocks and stones near the water's surface. It is dragged up by hand or with a rake at low tide in the summer in North America and in the fall in Ireland, then dried in the sun.
