Eye Bright is a creeping, semi-parasitic annual that grows up to 50 cm (20 in). It has thin oval leaves and scallop-edged white blooms with black centers and yellow dots resembling little eyes.
The Doctrine of Signatures, an ancient belief that a plant's characteristics indicate its medicinal uses, led to using eyebright for eye ailments.
It thrives in open grasslands and meadows and is widespread across Europe. It is harvested in summer when in bloom.
