Damania was first used as an aphrodisiac and tonic by the Mayan people. The herb has a strong smell and a bitter taste. In Mexico, the leaves are used for tea and liqueur flavoring.
This plant grows well in a hot climate with high humidity. It is still grown and harvested in its native homes - the Gulf of Mexico, Namibia, Caribbean Islands, and California.
