"Black cumin cures every disease - except death": This was the conviction of the Prophet Muhammad more than 1300 years ago. Habitat & Cultivation
The dried black seeds of an annual black cumin plant, which grows up to 60 cm high, originally come from Western Asia and Southern Europe. Today, however, they are mainly used in India, Egypt, Turkey and the countries of the Middle East. The feathery leaves of the plant, which belongs to the buttercup family, contain white and blue flowers, from which fruits with seed pods are formed. These burst open at maturity to produce the rough, triangular, almost teardrop-shaped seeds, which are black on the outside and oily white on the inside.
